The first gathering, originally called the "Nano Mechanical Cantilever Workshop", was held in Madrid, Spain in 2004. The workshop was subsequently held in Knoxville, TN, USA, to foster transcontinental collaborations (ASME Nanomechanics Conference, Knoxville, 2005). Since these earliest meetings, the conference’s location has alternated between Asia-Pacific, Europe, and N. America.
